ALEA awards recognize those individuals whose personal efforts or actions have perpetuated the professionalism and advancement of public safety aviation.  The awards that ALEA presents annually are:


ROBERT L. CORMIER AWARD Bell aligned hires

This award identifies and recognizes an individual or individuals whose personal efforts or actions have perpetuated the professionalism and advancement of airborne law enforcement in public service. It acknowledges activities during any period of time, including lifetime achievement. The person or organization may or may not be sworn personnel or a member of ALEA. Examples of possible recipients include a progressive governor, police chief, sheriff, department, agency, division or unit.


CAPTAIN ‘GUS’ CRAWFORD MEMORIAL AIRCREW OF THE YEAR AWARD AIRBUS Logo 2017

This award identifies and recognizes an individual and/or crewmember(s) whose flying efforts and professionalism epitomize ALEA’s motto, “To Serve and Protect from the Air.” Nominees must have been ALEA members in good standing  when the event occurred, and the event must have occurred between April 1st of the year prior to  award and March 31st of the year of award.  In addition, membership in ALEA must be current through the date of award acceptance.

This award identifies and recognizes an individual whose efforts or actions in maintaining or repairing aircraft (or aircraft parts, including avionics) operated by a law enforcement agency were performed in an extraordinary manner, above and beyond what is normally expected, and whose efforts have brought distinction upon themselves, their department and ALEA. The efforts or actions described above may be a single event or span over a period of time. Nominees must be ALEA members in good standing for at least one year at the time the nominations are made, and membership in ALEA must be current through the date of award acceptance.

This award recognizes an individual who has demonstrated a longstanding and continuing dedication to airborne law enforcement safety. This dedication can be measured by documented achievements in the areas of, but not limited to, management, safety, education and maintenance that significantly improved the safety of an airborne law enforcement unit or the airborne law enforcement industry.  Nominees must be ALEA members in good standing for at least one year at the time the nominations are made, and membership in ALEA must be current through the date of award acceptance.

This award identifies and recognizes a pilot and/or crewmember whose performance of their duties utilizing a fixed-wing aircraft has had a significant impact on the operation of their agency. Nominees must have been ALEA members in good standing for at least one year at the time nominations are made and membership in ALEA must be current through date of award acceptance.


TACTICAL FLIGHT OFFICER (TFO) AWARD Air Bear

This award identifies and recognizes the flight crewmember serving as a Tactical Flight Officer whose performance in the operation of tactical equipment and/or coordination of ground-based assets was exemplary and resulted in the successful conclusion of a call or mission. Nominees must have been ALEA members in good standing when the event occurred. In addition, membership in ALEA must be current through the date of award acceptance.


UNMANNED AERIAL SYSTEMS (UAS) AWARD Aeryon Labs 2

Sponsored by Aeryon Labs, Inc.

This award will recognize an individual or group of individuals whose efforts or actions have promoted and/or furthered the development and/or use of UAS in the performance of public safety aviation missions. Likewise, this award may recognize an individual or agency whose safe and effective use of a UAS resulted in the successful completion of a public safety mission. The efforts or actions may be a single event or span over a period of time, and nominees may or may not be sworn personnel or members of ALEA.

Persons submitting nominations are encouraged to do so at www.alea.org.  The person making the nomination must submit his or her name and be an ALEA member in good standing for at least one year at the time the nomination is made. Nominations must include no more than three typed pages (MSWord; single-spaced; 8.5 x 11-inch page format), outlining what actions occurred that led to the nomination, along with a quality digital photo of the nominee in JPEG format.  Copies of newspaper or magazine articles and videos are welcome.  If your files are too large to be delivered via email or submitted through the website, they can be mailed on a jump drive to:
